Poll not working. Leave a comment I guess.
Should Jalopnik Make Doug Demuro A Writer?
![]() 11/05/2013 at 16:33 |
|
Polls not working for me, but I'd give it a strong yes.
![]() 11/05/2013 at 16:34 |
|
I've never done a poll before, I'm trying to figure it out.
![]() 11/05/2013 at 16:36 |
|
Poll isn't working.
My answer: No, they will try to corrupt him! And possibly make him wear pants while writing! Nothing could be worse!
Edit: Obviously, I'm joking. YES.
![]() 11/05/2013 at 16:39 |
|
If he would go for it then sure. I love his stuff.
![]() 11/05/2013 at 16:41 |
|
I like the persona of the slightly curmudgeonly, above the fray contributor with an outsider's perspective. Sort of like our very own Brock Yates.
![]() 11/05/2013 at 16:42 |
|
But other places are making him offers. If Jalopnik doesn't take him, we could lose him.
![]() 11/05/2013 at 16:42 |
|
At least pay him for his contributions.
![]() 11/05/2013 at 16:44 |
|
C. Yes, he's a great writer despite the fact he bought an auto CTS-V
![]() 11/05/2013 at 16:47 |
|
Siiiiii ! :]
![]() 11/05/2013 at 16:50 |
|
Absolutely yes, because he's a talented and caring automotive writer/journalist.
![]() 11/05/2013 at 16:58 |
|
In that case, Kickstarter?
![]() 11/05/2013 at 17:05 |
|
Kickstarter is to help start a idea get off the ground. You'd be better off donating to him through a Paypal account or similar.
![]() 11/05/2013 at 17:07 |
|
I was thinking kickstarter to fund a new salaried "roving columnist" position just for him.
![]() 11/05/2013 at 17:09 |
|
Are you thinking of freelance journalism? If so, it's by definition not salaried.
![]() 11/05/2013 at 17:11 |
|
Yes, please. His writings are great and already get featured often on the front page, why they haven't done it yet is beyond me.
![]() 11/05/2013 at 17:17 |
|
No, my understanding was we were petitioning to have him added as a staffer, which would be salaried, but one who would be responsible for only original commentary (ie columns) rather than the more typical aggregated content we see on most blogs.
![]() 11/05/2013 at 17:29 |
|
Absolutely and unequivocally yes.
![]() 11/05/2013 at 17:30 |
|
Hell no. The guy has an automatic CTS-V Wagon.
![]() 11/05/2013 at 17:35 |
|
" one who would be responsible for only original commentary (ie columns) rather than the more typical aggregated content we see on most blogs."
That would be my hope.
![]() 11/05/2013 at 17:41 |
|
Yes he's a great writer... I just fear that his writing would suffer if he would be an official Writer....
Oh and he bought an automatic... I mean how could he
![]() 11/05/2013 at 17:43 |
|
You really should've bought a stick shift..... Joking, love your writing, go on like that!!!
![]() 11/05/2013 at 17:49 |
|
Who are the three bastards that voted "no" on the poll?
![]() 11/05/2013 at 17:51 |
|
Ok, I see. That would be great.
![]() 11/05/2013 at 17:57 |
|
I'll bet $20 that one of them is Doug DeMuro.
![]() 11/05/2013 at 17:57 |
|
Hell yes! I absolutely love reading his posts, they crack me up!
![]() 11/05/2013 at 17:58 |
|
Yes!
![]() 11/05/2013 at 18:14 |
|
Yup. (Texan for, "yes")
![]() 11/05/2013 at 18:30 |
|
Who is Doug DeMuro?
![]() 11/05/2013 at 18:33 |
|
How is this even in question. He would instantly be your best writer.
![]() 11/05/2013 at 18:33 |
|
How is this even in question. He would instantly be your best writer.
![]() 11/05/2013 at 18:42 |
|
Yes, make him a writer. I've been saying this for a while now. nothing against the current writers, but Doug is by far the most consistently entertaining.
![]() 11/05/2013 at 18:51 |
|
Plus 1
Columns are great, his 2 books were great!!
![]() 11/05/2013 at 18:52 |
|
Jalopnik needs a presence in the Southeast. Petit LeMans, other Road Atlanta events, Atlanta Motor Speedway, both the Hilton Head and Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance, Daytona Bike week, and the driving roads in the Appalachians are all great for the motor world, but it's hard to cover that from LA or NY.
Give Doug a job. Just require him to continue responding to my tweets. It makes me feel like one of the cool kids when he does.
![]() 11/05/2013 at 18:52 |
|
Yes.
![]() 11/05/2013 at 19:26 |
|
He reminds me of a young Jeremy Clarkson...without the pubey hair I guess...
![]() 11/05/2013 at 19:35 |
|
You where joking on the making him wear pants part right?
![]() 11/05/2013 at 19:48 |
|
From what I understand, Matt is probably only a press car and an espresso away from most of those events.
But I agree.
![]() 11/05/2013 at 19:52 |
|
Meanwhile, I feel like one of the cool kids when you tweet me !
![]() 11/05/2013 at 19:52 |

I haven't quite figured the poll out yet. It's a true miracle I can even get Kinja to work.
![]() 11/05/2013 at 19:53 |
|
Back to Monaco pics.
![]() 11/05/2013 at 19:53 |

Despite the transmission choice?
![]() 11/05/2013 at 19:55 |

You can get Kinja to work? What's your secret?
![]() 11/05/2013 at 20:21 |
|
duh. #Winning
![]() 11/05/2013 at 20:21 |
|
God Yes!!! Make him a WRITER!!!!

Mtr put a blue link at the bottom to vote directly at pollcode.com
![]() 11/05/2013 at 21:29 |
|
Yup
![]() 11/05/2013 at 21:36 |
|
Yes! He's owned not only a first and second gen CTS-V, but also an AMG wagon and an 850 Turbo. He's about as Jalop as it realistically gets.
![]() 11/05/2013 at 21:51 |
|
I didn't know he had a first gen CTS-V?
![]() 11/05/2013 at 22:16 |

Little track down south called "Sebring" and NASCAR, ALMS (RIP), Grand AM (BOO!), and IndyCar begin their seasons in FL.
![]() 11/05/2013 at 22:23 |
|
No! But not because he bought an automatic CTS-V wagon, but because if he works for The Man, then he'll be a sellout, and no longer cool. Right now we have Doug as a writer on the fringe, sticking to The Man and beating them at their own game. He's one of us, and not some editor looking down upon the prols the ivory tower; laughing as we writhe in anguish in reaction to the latest redesign.
![]() 11/05/2013 at 22:31 |
|
Isn't he in Texas?
![]() 11/05/2013 at 22:34 |
|
I thought he was in like NC or SC or something.
![]() 11/05/2013 at 22:34 |
|
I could have sworn he was either in Houston or Austin. I may be wrong though.
![]() 11/05/2013 at 22:35 |
|
Ok, I'll admit I mostly just listed off the ones that I usually go to.
![]() 11/06/2013 at 00:11 |
|
Yes, but only if he posts pictures of his stuffed Porsche.
![]() 11/06/2013 at 00:26 |
|
Matt is in Virginia, actually, but I think he's heading to NY before too long.
![]() 11/06/2013 at 00:27 |
|
Yeah! Had an 04 a couple years ago. Great car, awful transmission. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in a performance sedan around that price point — it handles tremendously well.
![]() 11/06/2013 at 00:30 |
|
Here it is— assuming mobile works. 997 Gen II Coupe. I put a convertible one of these into a tree in 2011. Shame the real thing wasn't stuffed.
![]() 11/06/2013 at 00:31 |
|
What was wrong with the transmission? Oh yeah, it was manual only. I'm sure most of us would like it. Hehehe
And your car list is too damn awesome for one person, maybe you don't need more money!
![]() 11/06/2013 at 00:32 |
|
Haha. No — it was simply awful. There was about an inch of play to the left and right when the lever was in gear. WTF.
![]() 11/06/2013 at 00:34 |
|
That's weird.
Hey, how has this post gone for you?
![]() 11/06/2013 at 01:03 |
|
Of course he should be hired immediately, with only one stipulation. NO more writing about diesels. I told him this before and he ignored me.
![]() 11/06/2013 at 02:11 |
|
And his opinions are gay .

Doug is a writer?
![]() 11/06/2013 at 09:22 |
|
His article about the guy in the Mercedes breaking the record for crossing the US was pretty good. If he can keep that up and not write like he has in about every article prior to that, sure. Otherwise, no.
![]() 11/06/2013 at 09:27 |
|
That would explain why my Twitter feed was full of Virginia election news yesterday.
![]() 11/06/2013 at 11:28 |
|
Was this you, or your mom?
![]() 11/06/2013 at 12:12 |
|
You just needed to replace your shifter bushings. My 1990 F150's gear shift has like 4 inches of play when in gear. Still shifts fine so IDGAF
![]() 11/06/2013 at 12:40 |
|
Definitely! He was the primary reason I read TTAC and has been an immense addition to Jalopnik since he's been posting informally here. We ought to find a way to pay him.
![]() 11/06/2013 at 13:42 |
|
Hahahaha.
![]() 11/06/2013 at 13:44 |
|
I've also got to get to your steering wheel article at some point. I agree with the headline and steering wheels are not taken into consideration nearly as much as they ought to be, so I might like that one too :P
![]() 11/06/2013 at 14:16 |
|
I so deeply agree. Not enough people talk about steering wheels! To me it's the single most important part of the interior — or maybe it shares that title with turn signal stalks.
![]() 11/06/2013 at 14:33 |
|
Now, now, don't get "most important" confused with "highest importance/utilization rate ratio" ;)
![]() 11/06/2013 at 16:08 |

Absolutely yes. Pay the man!

Anyone with the stones to drag race a Nissan Cube in rural Georgia is good in my book. Put him on the payroll.
![]() 11/06/2013 at 17:05 |

Haha. My mom has a lot to say on the subject, it would seem.
![]() 11/06/2013 at 17:18 |
|
She's very proud of you. And is still waiting for you to take out the trash. =P
LOL. I couldn't let you off too easy. Personally, I think you would be a great addition to the staff here, but I'm biased. I really like your writing, and I really enjoy this place.
![]() 11/06/2013 at 17:52 |
|
If this is the next step on his journey to write for WIRED or Rolling Stone or Esquire before the whole industry collapses into spasms of clickbaited press-release regurgitation, so be it. He certainly emulates with aplomb the clever-jerk style required by special-interest blogs. And I believe he's legitimately claiming CTS-V wagon operation as a business expense, which is a very Jalop move, transmission choice be damned.
![]() 11/06/2013 at 18:12 |
|
Considering Clarkson's favourite car is an automatic Mercedes...most definitely.
![]() 11/06/2013 at 19:00 |

hmmm... that sounds awful, but in a way Alfa-like... so it's awesome again!
![]() 11/06/2013 at 19:06 |

Yes, we must bow down to the all mighty Doug.
![]() 11/06/2013 at 22:25 |

TEAM DEMURO!
still waiting on his article about his pooping regiment… sadly it may never come :(
![]() 11/07/2013 at 11:26 |

Definitely!

![]() 11/12/2013 at 15:32 |

Unfortunately yes.
What a sight it would have been to see you wrap a stuffed 997 convertible around a tree.
Porsche would have not forgiven that one.
![]() 11/12/2013 at 15:47 |

I read him, though his latent hatred of everything I own should automatically disqualify him.
yeah, who the hell am i? a legend in my own mind
![]() 11/12/2013 at 15:52 |

Plus: where the hell are you going to get a second stuffed 911? This thing is such a joke I assume they only made this one.
